Insurance
I am an in-network provider for Aetna, United Healthcare, Humana, and Medicare. I am able to provide all necessary paperwork for you to submit claims for out-of-network reimbursement should you have a different insurance. It is your responsibility to confirm that I am in-network with your specific plan, to understand the details of your benefits, and to secure any needed referrals. Your copay or coinsurance will differ based upon the specifics of your personal policy. Please call your insurance company for details.
Why wouldn’t I want to use my health insurance for therapy?
One word sums up the answer to this question: privacy. As a condition of using your health insurance, you agree to let your insurance company be party to the details of your private mental health care. They also get to “manage” this care. It’s not uncommon for your treatment to be cut short or outright denied. Sometimes an insurance employee with little or no training as a psychotherapist will tell your psychologist what kind of care that they are allowed to provide to you and for how long. This saves the insurance company money without much regard for the quality of help that you receive. They will also require that you receive a mental health diagnosis that becomes a part of your medical record. This could impact you in the future in certain scenarios pertaining to employment or life insurance. By working outside of your insurance, I am able to treat you completely privately and without unnecessary constraint.
